Second-hand Smoke is the invisible form of 1st hand smoke. 2^nd hand smoke has a mind of its own, it goes where it wants to, when it wants to and knows no barriers. Ventilation systems in homes and office buildings actually spreads smoke from room to room. Tobacco smoke cannot be entirely filtered out and toxic chemicals from second-hand smoke travel through the air and land on carpeting, furniture, curtains and clothing.

Second-hand smoke causes heart disease, lung cancer, nasal sinus, cancer, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), asthma and middle ear infections in children and various other respiratory illnesses. Second-hand smoke exposure is also causally associated with stroke, low birth-weight, spontaneous abortion, negative effects on the development of cognition and behaviour, exacerbation of cystic fibrosis and cervical cancer.

Children breathe faster than adults and are particularly vulnerable to environmental tobacco smoke. Parents who smoke increase the chances that their children will develop asthma by over 200 per cent. Even pets can be affected by the health hazards of second-hand smoke.
